Resilience Is Also Built Into Agreements

Based on D365-IRL · Day 364 · Date not documented

Carlos Ocampo · Field Note #037

English translation of the original Spanish publication. Original dates, authorship and documentary images are preserved.

An organization preserves room to decide when its commitments are understandable and its alternatives can be put into practice. Resilience also depends on the agreements we work with: what we expect, whom we depend on and how we will act if something changes.

The Day 364 summary connects preparation, verification, alternative plans and contracts. Building on that conversation, we propose examining one specific dimension: the distance between what we believe was agreed and what the parties actually understand.

When that distance remains hidden, any change requires rebuilding the conversation. A date meant one thing to the person making an offer and another to the person waiting. A resource that seemed available depended on a condition no one made explicit.

Preparing the work means asking what must be confirmed before proceeding, which signal requires revisiting a commitment and who needs to participate in that review. These are coordination questions; specific legal clauses require their own analysis.

HFE™ can provide a recurring space to review these dependencies. An agreement needs to remain visible as operations change.

This is the practical continuation of preparing before reacting: turning alternatives into conversations and commitments that can support a decision.

Which agreement in your operation seems clear until you ask each party what they understood?
